DNFSB to Hold Second Meeting on Safety Culture Aug. 27

The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board will hold its second public meeting on safety culture at Department of Energy nuclear facilities on Aug. 27 at its Washington, D.C., headquarters. During the all-day meeting, the DNFSB will hear testimony during a 9 a.m. session from senior Navy officials about the Navy’s approach to maintaining its nuclear fleet, its safety policies and procedures, and on the “tools, metrics and practices used to sustain a strong safety culture, and safety culture lessons learned.” During a 1 p.m. afternoon session on the role of organizational leaders on establishing and maintaining an effective safety culture, a representative from the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigations Board and experts from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Southern California will testify.
