Department of Energy and contractor officials are scheduled to meet today in Richland, Wash., for a workshop to discuss various potential alternatives for high-level waste processing at the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant. The purpose of the one-day workshop, according to a copy of the meeting agenda obtained by WC Monitor, is to evaluate “HLW direct feed options that have been preliminarily identified to support [WTP project contractor Bechtel National] in the final down-select of alternatives which warrant further maturation to support completion of the [River Protection Project] mission.” The meeting comes as Bechtel National is working to rebaseline and replan the Hanford vit plant project, with an options/tradeoff study among the deliverables due later this summer. Alternatives to be discussed at the workshop include Phase 1 Direct Feed HLW with Variations; Phase 2 Direct Feed HLW with Optimal Leaching and Solids Concentration; Phase 3 Direct Fee HLW Using WTP Pretreatment Facility for Low-Activity Waste pretreatment; Alternative Waste Feed preparation Flowsheet; Preconditioning Feed to PT Facility; and Replacement of WTP PT Non-Newtonian Vessels.
