Meanwhile, the Idaho Treatment Group received a $65 million extension for the Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project in order to “accommodate DOE’s competitive procurement process for the new Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) Core contract,” another DOE press release says. “This action will allow for award of the new ICP Core contract and transition to the new contract to occur without interruptions of ongoing environmental cleanup activities. This extension will help ensure that the government receives the highest return on investment for its environmental restoration work.” The prior contract, which dates to October 2011, was also due to expire on Sept. 30. The renewed contract calls for ITG to continue characterization, certification, packaging, and storage of transuranic waste; disposition of mixed low-level waste “at an appropriate treatment and/or disposal facility”; and retrieval of stored waste from the Transuranic Storage Area-Retrieval Enclosure.
The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management on Wednesday announced six-month extensions of two contracts for cleanup of the Idaho Site.CH2M-WG Idaho (CWI) secured a $114 million extension for a contract that was due to lapse on Sept. 30 for the Idaho Cleanup Project, which involves remediation of contaminated facilities and radioactive waste produced during decades of energy and defense operations at the site 40 miles west of Idaho Falls. “This action will allow for award of the new ICP Core contract and transition to the new contract to occur without interruptions of ongoing environmental cleanup activities,” according to a DOE press release. CWI, a partnership of CH2M Hill and URS, has held the contract since March 2005. The extension calls for it to continue treatment and disposal of radioactive waste, management of spent nuclear fuel, and environmental remediation, among other operations.
