The Department of Energy on provided an additional $5.4 million in funds for the program supporting the American Centrifuge technology, enough to cover work through Aug. 5, USEC said in a financial filing yesterday. Since May the company has been performing work under a subcontract with Oak Ridge National Laboratory with an aim to preserve the technology and maintain and demonstrate operations of the centrifuges. Total funding so far comes to about $21.3 million, while the base term of the subcontract runs until Sept. 30 for a total of $33.7 million. There are two options six month $41.7 million option periods that would run the program through FY’15.
