Online registration is scheduled to open on April 11 for upcoming tours of the Hanford Site that will focus on cleanup operations at the onetime plutonium production facility, the Department of Energy announced Friday. Those interested can register via the Hanford website, hanford.gov.
The tours will involve viewings and briefings on several cleanup projects at the Washington state facility, including the 618-10 Burial Ground, Plutonium Finishing Plant, and Waste Treatment Plant. The tours are offered free of charge and last about four hours, beginning at 8 a.m. at the MSA Office Building, 2490 Garlick Blvd. in Richland.
Tours are scheduled to be offered on the following dates: May 3, 9, 23, and 24; June 6, 7, 14, 20, and 27; July 11, 12, 19, and 25; Aug. 2, 8, 16, 22, and 30; and Sept. 12 and 13. The tours are restricted to U.S. citizens ages 18 and older, and will require government-issued photo identification. Residents of select states, including Washingotn, might need to bring two forms of identification. More details are available at hanford.gov.
