The Department of Energy has begun searching for a new official to help oversee the cleanup of the Department’s Idaho site, with Jim Cooper set to retire from his current position as Deputy Manager for the Idaho Cleanup Project at DOE’s Idaho Operations Office. The DOE Idaho Operations Office confirmed yesterday that Cooper has “submitted formal notice of his plans to retire as a proactive measure to ensure a smooth transition to a new manager,” but did not say when his retirement is set to go into effect. Cooper has overseen the cleanup of DOE’s Idaho site since late June of 2011, when he was named as Deputy Manager for the Idaho Cleanup Project. DOE has posted the position on the USAJobs website and is taking applications through Dec. 10.
