With only about two years remaining in the base period of Fluor-B&W Portsmouth’s contract for D&D of the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, the Department of Energy is so far staying quiet as to whether it plans to exercise an available option period or look to recompete the contract. In remarks yesterday at the Waste Management Symposium, being held in Phoenix, DOE Office of Environmental Management Deputy Assistant Secretary for Acquisition and Project Management Jack Surash said DOE is gearing up to begin looking at future plans for the Portsmouth D&D contract, but declined to go into further detail. “We’re coming into the window—just like we do with all of our contracts when you have a base period and an option period—where we come to a decision as to what we’re going to do. We’re coming into that window. We’re not there yet,” Surash said.
