DOE undergoes reorganization under Chris Wright

By ExchangeMonitor

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright Thursday announced reorganization of the Department of Energy with a prominent role in the organizational chart for the semiautonomous National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

The reorganization is designed “to strengthen DOE’s ability to execute President Trump’s bold agenda to restore American energy dominance,” Wright said in a press release.

“This realignment reflects the administration’s priorities of expanding American energy production, accelerating scientific and technological leadership, and ensuring the continued safety and readiness of the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile,” Wright added. “These changes will help us better execute the DOE mission of delivering affordable, reliable and secure American energy for the American people.”

A link to the new org chart shows an office of undersecretary for nuclear security and NNSA being one of the three biggest silos reporting up to Wright and his deputy secretary. The other two largest boxes are the undersecretary for science and the office of undersecretary for energy.

The Office of Nuclear Energy is one of the smaller boxes reporting up to the undersecretary of energy.  The Office of Environmental Management is one of several smaller boxes on the side of the page appearing to report up to the office of Wright and the deputy secretary James Danly.

Secretary Wright and Environmental Management chief Tim Walsh, both from Colorado, have a long personal history, one industry source said Thursday.
