DOE’S NEW TANK WASTE BOARD MEETS TODAY FOR FIRST TIME

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy’s new Tank Waste Corporate Board will hold its first meeting in Idaho today, seeking to strengthen tank waste efforts that have been ham-strung by funding cuts and significant stumbles on the construction and startup of a trio of plants that will treat the waste. In a statement yesterday, DOE spokesman Colin Jones said, "The Tank Waste Corporate Board (TWCB) is being re-chartered consistent with the vision for the new Tank Waste and Nuclear Materials Mission Unit. The Board will meet semi-annually and include a group of senior Department of Energy, contractor and laboratory managers, and staff to formulate and coordinate implementation of an effective and efficient national Tank Waste program.”
