ECA anticipates likely Democratic chairs in next Congress

The Energy Communities Alliance (ECA) Wednesday gave its rundown on likely key committee leadership in the House and Senate when the Democratic Party majority takes the reins of Congress in January.

The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, which oversees Department of Energy programs and development on public lands is apt to be led by Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), ECA said in an emailed summary.

The Senate Armed Services Committee will likely be chaired by Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), ECA said. Meanwhile look for House Armed Services to be chaired by Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.).

The Senate Appropriations Committee could be chaired by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), ECA said. House Appropriations could be led by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.). The House Energy & Water subcommittee might be chaired by Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio).

Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, which oversees the Environmental Protection Agency and other programs, would likely be chaired by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
