The Eddy Lea Energy Alliance and Holtec International will hold a joint press conference this Wednesday in Carlsbad, N.M., concerning their plan for moving forward on interim storage of spent nuclear fuel in southeastern New Mexico. The ELEA has been working on siting an interim facility in the region, going so far as to express its interest to the Department of Energy. With the revelation last week of a letter of support for interim storage from New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez (R), the ELEA is expected to make an announcement on its progress in constructing a facility. According to a release, “The presenters are pleased to invite the Press to announce an exciting and historic project in New Mexico that will provide both economic development opportunities and help our nation manage its nuclear materials in a more responsible manner.” The press conference will take place Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History.
