The Eighth Annual RadWaste Summit in Summerlin, Nev., kicks off this evening with an opening dinner followed tomorrow morning by an opening plenary on the path forward for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. That session includes remarks from New Mexico Environment Department Secretary Ryan Flynn, Frank Marcinowski of the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management and Jim Blankenhorn of Nuclear Waste Partnership. Other speakers include Nevada Conservation and Natural Resources Department Director Leo Drozdoff, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National FUSRAP Program Manager Nicki Fatherly, Waste Control Specialists’ Rod Baltzer, Kurion’s John Raymont, Jason Williams of EnergySolutions, David Victor of the Community Engagement Panel for San Onofre Decommissioning Project, and DOE EM’s Christine Gelles and Jay Rhoderick. The summit ends Friday with an all-day workshop in conjunction with EFCOG on options for DOE’s transuranic waste inventory.
