Secretary of Energy Chris Wright will hold a press conference at Holtec International’s shuttered Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan, N.Y. on Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time.
While the Department of Energy’s Wednesday media advisory did not provide the specifics of Wright’s visit, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) will also attend the press conference. Lawler represents the district where Indian Point, which is undergoing decommissioning, is located.
Indian Point, home to three units, ceased operations in 2021. The plant is also 25 miles away from New York City. Though the previous operator, Entergy, agreed in 2017 to close down Unit 2 by 2020 and Unit 3 of Indian Point by 2021, local news outlets have reported recent “mixed signals” on the possibility of restarting the plant.
