Fire contained around Lawrence Livermore lab

By Sarah Salem

A five-acre grass fire broke out near the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif. Monday, a local news outlet reported.

The lab fire broke out at 1 p.m. Pacific time Monday. It started on Greenville Road near Patterson Pass Road, according to a July 21 article by a local Patch newsletter.

As of 2:11 p.m. firefighters were conducting a mop-up of the fire, and any incoming fire resources were cancelled. A reason for the fire starting has not been uncovered yet, according to the report.

A spokesperson for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory told the Exchange Monitor in an email Wednesday that Monday’s fire was “contained quickly,” and there were no injuries reported and no impact to the lab’s operations or facilities.

Grass fires are unfortunately common in our area during the summer, and we remain in close coordination with local fire agencies to monitor and respond quickly when needed,” the spokesperson said.
