FIRED Y-12 SECURITY GUARD STILL FIGHTING FOR REINSTATEMENT

By ExchangeMonitor

Kirk Garland, the security guard fired after three elderly protesters broke into the Y-12 National Security Complex in July of 2012, is continuing to try to get his old job back and is seeking reimbursement for lost wages, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. Garland has found work at the Morgan County (Tenn.) Correctional Facility, but the International Guards Union of America, Local 3 filed a grievance for Garland, and the case is currently in federal arbitration. In comments to the News Sentinel, Garland defended his actions. “Like I told the arbitrator … we can sit here and you can scrutinize me all you want, but at the end of the day I stopped their actions, I detained them, I called for backup, we arrested them, I testified against them and they’re in prison,” Garland told the News Sentinel. “How much more picture perfect can it be than that? And I went home to my family, and nobody got killed and nobody got hurt.”
