Former Astronaut Formally Takes Over as NIF/Photon Science Director at Livermore

By ExchangeMonitor

Jeff Wisoff, who replaced Ed Moses in the fall as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Principal Associate Director for the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science, is officially taking over the position in a permanent role, LLNL Director Bill Goldstein said yesterday. “I have every confidence in Jeff and know that he will continue to lead the NIF&PS organization effectively, as well as continue to champion the Laboratory’s missions and key initiatives, as a member of the LLNL senior management team,” Goldstein said in a statement.

Wisoff joined the lab in 2001 after a 10-year career as a NASA astronaut during which he participated in four space shuttle flights and three spacewalks. Before taking over as the acting director of the NIF and Photon Science, Wisoff was the program’s principal deputy, the Directed Energy Program manager, the deputy Principal Associate Director for Operations, associate project manager for Small Optical Systems, and deputy associate project manager for Systems.
