Former Livermore Official Lands Pentagon Arms Control Post

By ExchangeMonitor

A former Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory official has landed in a senior Pentagon arms-control post, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Charles Ball was appointed deputy assistant secretary of defense for threat reduction and arms control in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics: part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Ball was most recently deputy program development director for defense at Livermore.

In his new role, Ball reports to the Pentagon’s assistant secretary of defense for nuclear, chemical, and biological defense programs and, among other things, provides advice about complying with nuclear arms-control and nonproliferation treaties. The position also features responsibilities outside the nuclear realm, including acquisitions programs aimed at eliminating chemical weapons.
