FORMER LLNL DIRECTOR JOHNNY FOSTER HONORED BY EXCHANGEMONITOR

Former Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Director Johnny Foster was honored yesterday for his service to national security by ExchangeMonitor Publications and Forums with an award that will be named in his honor and awarded annually at the Nuclear Deterrence Summit. The Johnny Foster Award will be given annually to national security professionals who have made significant impacts to ensuring the security of the United States. “Johnny’s has been a life devoted to ensuring the security of the United States,” ExchangeMonitor President Ed Helminski said at the Nuclear Deterrence Summit yesterday. “He served in many ways and he has been needed actually to keep the nuclear deterrent credible and viable. He exemplifies the meaning of citizen in stepping up to challenges. … It has been pointed out that you see further by standing on the shoulders of giants. We all stand on the shoulders of Johnny Foster.”
 
Foster, 90, said he was “honored and humbled” to receive the award. “You must realize that any one of us that tries to help national security, particularly those who have given their careers to national service in the military, any contribution by an individual only results in great success because of the participation of tens of thousands of others who actually make it possible,” Foster said.
