NuScale has announced the opening of its newest Energy Exploration Center at George Mason University in Virginia.
The nuclear company partnered up with George Mason’s College of Engineering and Computing to open its largest Energy Exploration center in the United States, according to NuScale’s Wednesday press release.
The NuScale’s center is designed to engage students in hands-on nuclear science and engineering educational activities, the company said. It will feature a simulator that replicates a NuScale small modular reactor control room.
The 345,000-square-foot Energy Exploration Center will be at George Mason’s new Fuse building, at Mason Square in Arlington, VA. The center, which became operational on May 30, will have a grand opening ceremony planned for fall 2025.
The Virginia Clean Energy Innovation Bank, which is backed by the Virginia Department of Energy, funded the George Mason center. According to the press release, the grant was a strategic investment in Virginia’s nuclear energy workforce development.
The new Center at George Mason becomes the 11th educational institution with a NuScale Energy Exploration Center. Last month NuScale opened a new center at South Carolina State University.
