A subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee plans a hearing this week to question White House priorities on the Department of Energy’s budget request for fiscal 2024.
The energy, climate, & grid security subcommittee will hear testimony from Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on May 11, according to a press release. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over parts of DOE including the nuclear energy office.
DOE “has long served America’s critical national and energy security interests,” according to the release from subcommittee Chair Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and full committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.). “It maintains the nation’s nuclear stockpile, advances world class national security and engineering goals through the national laboratories, and nurtures the supply of American energy.”
In the announcement, the GOP leadership of the panel said it wants to discuss President Joe Biden’s “rush-to-green agenda” and question Granholm about statements made about China’s renewable energy program.
The hearing will be streamed live on the Internet and take place at 2123 Rayburn House Office Building.
Granholm has been making the rounds before Congress to discuss the spending plan for the 12 months starting Oct. 1. The White House has proposed $8.3 billion in funds for the DOE Office of Environmental Management, about flat with fiscal 2023, and $23.8 billion for the National Nuclear Security Administration in 2024, up about $1.5 billion from 2023.
