The National Nuclear Safety Administration announced this week Corey Hinderstein was sworn in as deputy administrator for defense nuclear nonproliferation at the National Nuclear Security Administration.
The Senate unanimously confirmed Hinderstein Nov. 30. With her swearing in, the NNSA returns to its full complement of three Senate-confirmed senior managers.
The swearing in was announced by National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) administrator Jill Hruby in a press release. “I would also like to thank Kasia Mendelsohn, who has graciously served as the Acting Deputy Administrator” for defense nuclear nonproliferation for the past 11 months, Hruby said.
This is the second tour of duty at NNSA for Hinderstein, who was senior coordinator for nuclear security and nonproliferation policy affairs at the semiautonomous DOE branch between 2015 through 2017.
Hinderstein, who most recently served as the Nuclear Threat Initiative’s vice president for international fuel cycle strategies, was approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee in a voice vote on Oct. 21.
