Amid a threat of a veto of the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, the House begin will begin voting on amendments to the legislation today. Notably, the following amendments will be considered:
- An amendment introduced by Reps. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Adrian Smith (R-Neb.) to prohibit reducing the alert posture of the intercontinental ballistic missile force.
- An amendment introduced by Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) that would strike a funding prohibition for fixed portal monitors for detecting nuclear weapons-grade and radiological material at major border crossings and ports in foreign countries.
- An amendment introduced by Fortenberry that would allow for consideration of alternative disposition options to the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility (MOX).
- An amendment introduced by Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) and Jared Polis (D-Colo.) that would require funding for Ohio-class Replacement submarines to come from the Navy’s shipbuilding account, rather than the Sea-Based Deterrent Fund. The amendment would also transfer funds from the fund to historic Navy budget lines.
- An amendment introduced by Polis, Blumenauer and Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) that would reduce the amount authorized for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Weapons Account to the amount in the President’s FY 2016 budget request.
- An amendment introduced by Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) that would limit funding for implementing New START.
