The Beijing-based Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute has become the 10th member of the Carbon Capture International Test Center Network, current network chair Southern Co. announced Monday. Through the 4-year-old network, carbon capture test facilities share knowledge to accelerate commercial deployment of CCS technology. The Department of Energy’s National Carbon Capture Center, which Southern operates, became the network chair in February.
“The addition of the Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute to the network broadens the abilities of Southern Company and its research partners to develop next-generation carbon capture technologies, which are critical for a cleaner energy future,” Southern Co. Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Kimberly Greene said in a press release.
The current members of the ITCN are Australia’s CO2CRC and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Norway’s CO2 Technology Center Mongstad and SINTEF Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research, the Korea Institute of Energy Research, Canada’s SaskPower, the United Kingdom’s UKCCSRC Pilot-Scale Advanced Capture Technology, Germany’s Uniper Technologies Ltd., Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute, and the National Carbon Capture Center.
