Two new studentships funded by the United Kingdom’s Imperial College London and Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) will support the investigation of carbon storage in depleted oil and gas reservoirs, the organizations announced Monday.
The first of the two projects will focus on monitoring the behavior of such reservoirs, while the second will focus on understanding the interactions of stored CO2 with residual oil and gas.
“These two shared studentships are an exciting step toward building a working relationship between CSIRO and one of the world’s leading academic institutions in the CCS area. We are thrilled to be able to share our knowledge and links to our world-class carbon dioxide storage demonstration facilities with Imperial College London researchers as we welcome them and establish closer ties to our colleagues based in London,” Patrick Hartley, CSIRO research director for oil gas and fuels, said in the release.
