INCUMBENTS WIN NEW WIPP TRANSPORTATION CONTRACTS

By ExchangeMonitor

CAST Specialty Transportation Inc. and Visionary Solutions, LLC, will continue to provide transportation services to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant under new contracts awarded yesterday. The contracts are firm fixed-price with cost-reimbursable expenses over five years, consisting of one-year base periods and four one-year option periods. The total value of the contracts is approximately $120 million each if all options are exercised, according to DOE.

CAST Specialty Transportation Inc. and Visionary Solutions, LLC have provided transportation services for WIPP since 2007. They beat out two other bidders for the new contracts, according to DOE spokesman Bill Taylor. Explaining DOE’s decision to stick with CAST Specialty Transportation Inc. and Visionary Solutions, LLC, Taylor said in a written response yesterday, “These two incumbent companies represented the best value to the government.” CAST Specialty Transportation Inc. is set to begin its new contract immediately, while Visionary Solutions’ new contract is set to begin in July.
