Dear Reader,
Some things go beyond the news of the day, and some questions are too big to be answered with a snappy quote.
That’s why the ExchangeMonitor is launching the “Your Voice/Our Voice” section in our widely read Weapons Complex Monitor weekly e-newsletter.
If we were a newspaper, we’d call it the opinion page.
We’re kicking things off this week with a remembrance of Fernald by Dennis Carr of Fluor.
If you have similar stories you want to share, or you just want to get something off your chest, why not write to us now? Beginning immediately, Weapons Complex Monitor welcomes your brief (300-word) letters to the editor for publication every Friday. We also welcome and encourage our readers — especially those of you who have been around the DOE nuclear complex for a while — to submit longer (800-word) commentaries for consideration. This is your voice, and the record we are creating in Weapons Complex Monitor is incomplete without it.
That said, all submissions may be edited for length and clarity. Don’t worry, though: we won’t change anything you wrote until we check with you first (so make sure submissions to [email protected] include your name, company affiliation, and a telephone number at which we can reach you). Anything we receive by Tuesday we can publish on Friday.
As for our voice, many of the stories we tell each week in this long-running publication are much like the cleanup sites where you all work: driven by the urgency of what’s on the surface, but ultimately shaped by the immensity of what lies buried beneath. When events merit, we’ll go beyond the news of the day with informed commentary that explains not only what happened and when, but why it matters to the nation.
And this is just the start. We’ll continue to seek new ways to build Weapons Complex Monitor into a community space for the people and organizations of the DOE cleanup complex.
Our bylines might be on the stories you read, but we’re just the newspeople. You’re the newsmakers, and we’re looking forward to hearing from you directly.
Write early, write often, and thanks for reading,
Chris Schneidmiller
