The strike at the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Kansas City Plant that has sent 860 production workers to the picket line is now at nine days, and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 778 and plant contractor Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies will meet for a second time with a federal mediator today. Both sides sounded optimistic after meeting separately with a mediator yesterday. “Honeywell is encouraged by today’s discussions with the federal mediator and looks forward to meeting with the union tomorrow to discuss resolution options and help get our hourly employees back to work,” the company said in a statement. “Honeywell stands committed to engage in an active dialogue and continues to bargain in good faith with the union.” In its own statement, the union called yesterday’s separate meeting with the mediator “productive in voicing our issues and concerns.”
