Kurion Makes Clean Technology List

Nuclear waste cleanup technology specialist Kurion on Tuesday announced that it had been selected for the 2015 Global Cleantech 100 list.
 
The annual list from the Cleantech Group recognizes the firms that “represent the most innovative and promising ideas in cleantech – the companies that are best positioned to tomorrow’s clean technologies challenges.” More than 6,900 companies from 60 nations were nominated to the 2015 list, according to a Kurion press release.
 
“Kurion is honored to be named one of the 2015 Global Cleantech 100,” Kurion CEO William Gallo said in the release. “We support the Cleantech Group’s mission to accelerate sustainable innovation and are proud to be recognized as a company with potential to make the most significant market impact. Kurion strives to provide cost-efficient, clean technology solutions that make deploying clean tech an easy and obvious choice.”

 

In the release, Kurion highlighted its Ion Specific Media systems that were used in cleaning millions of gallons of contaminated water at the devastated Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, along with its GeoMelt vitrification technology that has been employed globally since the 1990s to convert nuclear and hazardous waste into over 26,000 tons of glass for safe long-term disposal. The company is also working on prototype system for extracting tritium from water.
