Legacy Admin. Building Demolished as Part of UPF Project

By ExchangeMonitor
Building 9107, an office building at the Y-12 National Security Complex, was demolished in July as part of the site infrastructure and services subproject for the new Uranium Processing Facility, the National Nuclear Security Administration confirmed yesterday. Agency spokeswoman Shelley Laver told Weapons Complex Morning Briefing by email yesterday that the demolition was part of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers subcontract to the UPF project. Along with office space, the 11,000-square-foot building also housed the NNSA Office of Secure Transportation’s Eastern Command. At least at one point, Building 9107 facilities included storage lockers and weight training and exercise facilities, according to a 1999 Accident Investigation Board report. The exact purpose for the Building 9107 demolition was not immediately known. But the Army Corps of Engineers in June awarded a $5.89 million contract to Emerald-A&H Joint Venture for site infrastructure and services at UPF, which included the excavation of a hillside close to Building 9107.
