Former South Carolina Lt. Gov. André Bauer as shut down his GOP primary challenge against Sen. Lindsey Graham, the four-term incumbent, Bauer said on website X Aug. 8.
“I cannot and will not be part of a political climate that rewards deception over honesty, or ambition over unity,” Bauer wrote after campaigning against Graham for just over a month. “God calls us to walk in truth, to speak life, and to be peacemakers—not power seekers.”
Graham’s constituency includes the Savannah River Site in Aiken, S.C., which is to house the second pit facility in the nation in the 2030s, next to Los Alamos National Laboratory. Savannah River will make cores for the W93 warheads for eventual Naval ballistic missile requirements.
Graham also, contrary to some hard-right Republicans like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) that differed with President Donald Trump’s decision to send bombs to Iran’s nuclear facilities, was supportive of the mission and said Trump should “go all in.”
