Lockheed Martin Bidding on FISAC Propulsion Subsystem Contract

By ExchangeMonitor
Lockheed Martin is competing for the Propulsion Subsystem contract to be awarded as part of the Future ICBM Sustainment and Acquisition Concept (FISAC), a company spokeswoman told Weapons Complex Morning Briefing late last week. Slated to be the last of four subsystem contracts awarded under the new Air Force-managed FISAC contracting structure, the Propulsion Subsystem contract is expected to be awarded on Oct. 1, one day after the current ICBM Prime Integration Contract managed by Northrop Grumman is set to expire. Northrop Grumman and ATK are also competing for the Propulsion Subsystem contract. Furthermore, Lockheed Martin plans to pursue supporting the FISAC Guidance Subsystem contract, awarded to Boeing on Jan. 8, Lockheed spokesperson Lynn Fisher wrote in a Friday email to Weapons Complex Morning Briefing. Upon award of the Propulsion Subsystem contract, the FISAC will enter into full force, with BAE Systems providing direct support as Integration Support Contractor to the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center ICBM Systems Program Office at Hill AFB.

In addition to the Propulsion Subsystem contract, Lockheed is bidding on studies associated with the Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent, as well as Reentry Field Support Equipment that will replace 40-plus-year-old ICBM warhead test equipment, and is working with the Air Force on the GBSD guidance set, called the Conceptual Design and Architecture Guidance, Fisher wrote. Lockheed in June received the first FISAC subsystem contract–a $109 million sole-source award with options that could increase the contract’s value to $452 million–to maintain the ICBM Reentry System. “We’re proud to be a partner with the Air Force in keeping this critical system operational for the U.S., as well as those countries underneath the U.S.’s nuclear umbrella,” Fisher wrote.
