Here’s a look at some of the key events we’ll be covering this week:
- On April 8-9, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is scheduled to hold its 2013 International Nuclear Policy Conference at the Ronald Reagan Building International Trade Center in Washington. Speakers are set to include Rose Gottemoeller, Acting Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security; International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Yukiya Amano; and Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chair Allison Macfarlane, among others.
- On April 9, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources is scheduled to hold a confirmation hearing for Ernest Moniz, the Obama Administration’s next pick for Secretary of Energy. The hearing is set to be held in Room 366 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington beginning at 10 a.m.
- On April 10, the Obama Administration is scheduled to submit its Fiscal Year 2014 budget request to Congress. Look for special issues of Weapons Complex Monitor, RadWaste Monitor and Nuclear Weapons & Materials Monitor breaking down key aspects of the budget request, which will be published on the afternoon/evening of April 10.
- On April 11, the House Appropriations Energy and Water Subcommittee is scheduled to hold an oversight hearing on nuclear waste programs and strategies. The hearing is set to be held in Room 2362-6 in the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington beginning at 10 a.m. Among those set to testify are Assistant Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Energy Peter Lyons; Nuclear Regulatory Commission Deputy Executive Director Michael Weber; and Frank Russo, director of natural resources and environment at the Government Accountability Office, among others.
- On April 11-12, the Energy Communities Alliance is scheduled to hold its New Leadership Peer Exchange at the Washington Marriott in Washington. Speakers are set to include Department of Energy cleanup chief David Huizenga, Acting Under Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Security Neile Miller; and Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.), among others.
