Los Alamos National Laboratory has begun conducting market research to help find vendors capable of providing Type B transportation casks. Los Alamos’ Off-Site Source Recovery Project has recently obtained a Nuclear Regulatory Commission Certificate of Compliance on a “Type B(U) package which will be used to over pack shielded devices containing radioactive sealed sources,” according to a Request for Information notice issued this week. Los Alamos is now looking to “identify vendors with the qualifications and experience necessary to fabricate this package to OSRP’s design specifications and as required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC),” the notice says. Interested companies have until Aug. 15 to respond to the Request for Information.
