New Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz will meet with the directors of the Department of Energy’s national laboratories Monday in Oak Ridge in his first formal trip as a cabinet official in the Obama Administration, NW&M Monitor has learned. The location of the meeting appears to be somewhat symbolic, near the Y-12 National Security Complex site and one of the most high-profile security breaches in Department history as well as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which is expected to play a pivotal role in the implantation of Moniz’s energy agenda. The meeting also represents an opportunity for Moniz to discuss efforts to improve the alignment of the Department and the labs and how the Administration can enhance engagement at the labs. International work, the Quadrennial Energy Review, and energy innovation hubs are also expected to be on the agenda. DOE did not respond to a request for comment on the meeting.
