Moniz to Meet With Nevada, New Mexico Governors this Weekend

By ExchangeMonitor
With Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz slated to speak at the Western Governors’ Association meeting Saturday in Las Vegas, Moniz is expected to have one-on-one meetings with Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez to discuss Department of Energy issues in those states. Notably, New Mexico is currently deciding on enforcement actions in relation to violations linked to the incidents this year at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Meanwhile, in Nevada discussions between DOE and the state continue on the potential disposal of a controversial batch of uranium-233 at the Nevada National Security Site. The meeting with Sandoval would come just after the DOE-Nevada working group meeting on NNSS and the uranium-233 plans, which is scheduled for Friday.
