MOX SERVICES EARNS $7 MILLION IN AWARD FEE

By ExchangeMonitor

Shaw AREVA MOX Services earned $7 million out of an available $8.7 million in award fee in 2011 for construction of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility at the Savannah River Site, according to the contractor. On top of that, MOX Services also earned $2 million for meeting 2012 milestones ahead of schedule and an additional $700,000 base fee, for a total of $9.7 million earned for Fiscal Year 2011. “We in general felt like the award fee was good given the amount of work we’ve done. I certainly would like it to be perfect and I certainly think there is room for improvement. But we think DOE treated us fairly,” Kelly Trice, president and chief operating officer of Shaw AREVA MOX Services, told NW&M Monitor

Trice added, “Generally it says the project is running well. They would say there are areas where they would like us to be more efficient, which certainly is no surprise. They recognize the challenges we are facing through the nuclear renaissance and they offer some advice for areas and ways to improve that where they feel that a more graded approach can be taken and we certainly take those into account.” Trice said the contractor either met or exceeded standards in the nine areas evaluated in determining the fee.
