New York Power Authority has issued its first solicitations for a proposed 1,000-megawatt nuclear energy project.
One of the solicitations includes a request for information seeking information (RFI) from possible development partners with experience building or operating a nuclear power plant, according to NYPA’s Oct. 30 press release.
NYPA’s first solicitation seeks “information regarding viable project concepts that include technology recommendations, siting considerations, cost and timeline assumptions, ownership structure and partnership models,” the release said.
The solicitation seeks responses that show a credible pathway to delivering at least 1,000 megawatts of nuclear energy as soon as possible, with the hope of starting construction by 2033.
The other RFI is for Upstate New York communities interested in hosting a nuclear plant built by the NYPA. Responses for the solicitation should be no more than later 10 pages and should be sent in by Dec. 11.

In June, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), announced plans to deploy an advanced nuclear plant that can produce at least 1,000 megawatts. She directed the NYPA to work to evaluate advanced technologies, business models and locations for the new nuclear plant.
