National Nuclear Security Administration Associate Principal Deputy Administrator James “J.” Cavanagh is retiring after more than 30 years at the Department of Energy/NNSA, and an announcement of his departure from the agency is expected to come later this week, NW&M Monitor has learned. Cavanagh’s retirement is expected to be effective in late December. Cavanagh has held a variety of jobs at DOE/NNSA since joining the Department, serving as the acting Associate Administrator for Acquisition and Project Management when the position was created earlier this year. He also has served as the agency’s Chief Operating Officer, acting Chief Information Officer, Deputy Associate Administrator for Management and Administration, Deputy Director of the Office of Acquisition and Supply Management, and headed up the agency’s contracting office.
