NNSA awards $3M for secure Albuquerque headquarters space

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has awarded a nearly $3 million contract to renovate part of its Albuquerque headquarters into a secure space, according to a federal procurement notice.

NNSA awarded QA Engineering $2.99 million Sept. 28 for design-build construction to renovate a limited area of the John A. Gordon Complex and convert it into a secure space, according to the notice posted on SAM.gov.

The contract falls under a construction vehicle for work at the Gordon Complex, NNSA’s headquarters facility in Albuquerque, N.M. The solicitation was handled by NNSA’s Non-M&O Contracting Operations Division in Albuquerque.

The publicly available procurement information provides few details about the purpose of the secure space. It does not identify the NNSA office that will occupy the area, the security classification involved or the mission the renovated space will support.

The award also does not identify Sandia National Laboratories as a participant or end user. Sandia operates NNSA’s Sandia National Laboratories site in Albuquerque under a separate management and operating contract, but the Gordon Complex is an NNSA headquarters facility.

The contract is part of a broader design-build construction vehicle awarded to QA Engineering earlier this year for work at the Gordon Complex, as another task order awarded Sept. 28 calls for the installation of door wind-block structures at the facility.

Further details could emerge from additional procurement records or related NNSA contracting documents.
