No Harm Done at LANL High Explosive Site After Wildfire

By ExchangeMonitor

Workers were evacuated from a high-explosives research area at Los Alamos National Laboratory late last week after lightning apparently sparked a wildfire nearby, the Energy Department disclosed Tuesday.

On Thursday, “personnel responded to a wildland fire west of Technical Area (TA) 40,” according to a report published in DOE’s official Occurrence Reporting and Processing System database. ”Personnel observed that the fire was 200 yards from the nearest structure (TA-40-0023) and had burned one acre.”

Emergency personnel evacuated TA-40 and put out the fire, the report reads.

“There were no impacts to personnel or the facility,” according to the report.
