NRC to Host Public Session on Indian Point Decommissioning Report

By ExchangeMonitor

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will allow members of the public to comment this week on the decommissioning of a recently-shuttered nuclear power plant in New York, according to a notice from the agency.

Holtec International’s Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PSDAR) for Indian Point Nuclear Generating Station will be on the docket at a public meeting Thursday, according to a July 19 notice from NRC. Holtec, which formally took ownership of Indian Point from Entergy after the plant’s Unit 3 reactor shut down April 30, submitted its PSDAR in 2019.

Thursday’s meeting will be held in person at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel and Conference Center in Tarrytown, N.Y., NRC said. The public can also listen in to the meeting via phone.

The commission is also accepting written public comments on Holtec’s PSDAR for the Buchanan, N.Y. nuclear plant until October 22, according to a Federal Register notice published in June.

Holtec, which said earlier this month that its timeline for dismantling Indian Point did not slip because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has also said that it expects complete decommissioning to be done by 2035 or so.
