The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has launched a Web page providing information on increased oversight at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
NRC downgraded the power plant’s safety rating in September, following repeated unplanned shutdowns and safety relief valve issues. A month later owner Entergy announced plans to shut down the Massachusetts facility as early as spring 2017 and no later than 2019.
The website, http://www.nrc.gov/info-finder/reactors/pilg/special-oversight.html, includes background information, inspection data, and other details on the plant. The NRC wrapped up the first of three inspections related to its increased oversight in January. The inspection report is expected before the end of this month. The second inspection is scheduled for April 4, and the third has yet to be scheduled. Commission spokesman Neil Sheehan said in January that the initial inspection went as planned.
