NRC plans virtual public meetings on proposed rule changes

By ExchangeMonitor

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is planning a series of virtual public meetings this week on proposed rule changes following the Advance Act and a 2025 executive order by President Donald Trump.

On Monday July 13, starting at 1 p.m. Eastern Time, NRC will hold a public hearing on its plan to update security requirements, according to a July 7 press release.

On Tuesday July 14, at the same start time, a meeting will be conducted on low-level radioactive waste disposal.

Finally, on Wednesday July 15, at 10:30 a.m., a virtual meeting will be held by NRC on modernizing materials licensing.

The virtual meetings, which are all being webcast via Microsoft Teams, are centered upon rulemakings set in motion by Trump’s Executive Order 14300 and dramatically grow the U.S. nuclear energy output by 2050.

The Advance Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden two years ago, is also designed to expedite NRC license reviews.
