All five members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are set to appear before the House Energy and Power subcommittee this morning to discuss the NRC Fiscal Year 2015 budget request and other policy issues. The NRC’s fiscal year 2015 budget request is $1,060 million, to support 3,882 employees resulting in a $3.6 million increase and 66.8 additional full-time equivalent staff, but 90 percent of the agency’s budget is recovered through fees assessed on its licensees. Also expected to be discussed is the budgeting and progress for the Yucca Mountain license review as well as the impact of nuclear plant closures on the NRC’s budget. The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. in Room 2322 Rayburn House Office Building.
