The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is hosting a regulatory conference Wednesday and Thursday in Maryland, where government representatives and industry experts will discuss issues related to spent fuel storage and the transportation of radioactive material, among other items.
The conference is set to begin at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in White Oak B of the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, with a keynote address from NRC Chairman Stephen Burns. Day one will also involve talks from Catherine Haney, director of the NRC’s Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, and Mark Lombard and Anthony Hsia, respectively the director and deputy director of the Division of Spent Fuel Management. Other discussion topics include storage licensing, minor design changes, research activities, inspections, technical issues, transportation certification and consolidated storage. The second day of the conference will take place in Salon F of the hotel, which is located at 5701 Marinelli Road in North Bethesda.
