Nuclear Deterrence Summit Kicks Off Today

The Seventh annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit kicks off this evening in Washington, D.C., and will run through Friday at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, with major speeches planned Wednesday from National Nuclear Security Administration chief Frank Klotz, Russian Amb. Sergey Kislyak, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller, Navy Strategic Systems Programs Director Vice Adm. Terry Benedict, Air Force Assistant Chief of Staff, Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration Maj. Gen. Garrett Harencak, former Deputy Energy Secretary T.J. Glauthier, and former Under Secretary of State Bob Joseph. The heads of the NNSA’s weapons and nonproliferation programs, Don Cook and Anne Harrington, will speak Thursday morning, as will NNSA Acquisition and Project Management chief Bob Raines. The summit will also include discussion involving top officials from the nuclear weapons laboratories and production sites as well as senior industry officials and Congressional staff.
