Nuclear industry officials and the director of the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory are scheduled to testify before a House Energy & Commerce Committee subcommittee Wednesday morning in Washington, D.C.
House Energy & Commerce’s subcommittee on energy will convene a hearing at 10:15 a.m. Eastern Time Wednesday on “American Energy Dominance: Dawn of the New Nuclear Era.”
“The hearing will examine developments in the nuclear industry relating to licensing, deployment, implementation of recently enacted federal laws, and administration policies to facilitate the expansion of nuclear energy resources,” according to a subcommittee memo.
Topics expected to be discussed included licensing changes at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC); the 2024 Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy Act (ADVANCE Act) and the 2024 Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act.
Scheduled witnesses are:
- Maria Korsnick, president and CEO, Nuclear Energy Institute;
- John Williams, senior vice president, Technical Services & External Affairs, Southern Company;
- John Wagner, PhD, director, Idaho National Laboratory; and
- Judi Greenwald, president and CEO, Nuclear Innovation Alliance.
