Although the House Democrat currently in charge of the chamber’s energy committee will hand in his gavel in the next Congress, he will stick with the panel as its ranking member, according to a press release this week.
The House Democratic Caucus unanimously elected Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee for the 118th Congress, according to a Tuesday press release from the congressman. Pallone has served as top Democrat on the lower chamber’s energy committee since 2014, when he replaced the retiring Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.).
“I am honored to be elected Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee,” Pallone said in a statement. “Over the last two years, we accomplished a tremendous amount for the American people, and I am grateful to my Democratic colleagues for once again entrusting me to lead this Committee in the upcoming Congress.”
Pallone in March 2021 sponsored a bill along site Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) that designated nuclear power as a zero-emissions energy source, making it eligible for federal tax credits and grants.
The proposed legislation has yet to get a vote in the Energy and Commerce Committee.
