More than 130 countries and 60 world leaders have confirmed their attendance for the April 22 signing ceremony in New York for the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change announced Thursday. The agreement, struck in Decembers at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, is the world’s first universal climate agreement, applicable to developed and developing nations. The agreement will enter into force 30 days after the date at which it has been signed by at least 55 of the 197 parties to the convention, accounting in total for at least 55 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions.
