KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) is the premier production agency for nonnuclear components under the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), delivering more than 80% of all components for weapon modernization and sustainment. As one of eight sites in the broader nuclear security enterprise, KCNSC helps ensure the safety and security of the nation’s nuclear deterrent by providing multi-mission engineering and manufacturing solutions and delivering trusted national security products and government services.
Since 1949, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) has proudly been the sole management and operating contractor for KCNSC. Honeywell FM&T has earned a valuable reputation for delivering trusted innovation to national security.

Partnering with NNSA’s labs, plants and sites, KCNSC applies commercial best practices, improved processes and operating systems to tackle challenges facing our enterprise by:
- Executing to stringent national security requirements.
- Retaining a highly skilled workforce, aligning complex multisite schedules.
- Alleviating space concerns with innovative leasing and construction strategies.
- Managing an extensive supplier base.
- Incorporating and maturing state-of-the-art technologies.
With operations in Kansas City, Missouri, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, KCNSC’s nearly 7,000 employees develop advanced solutions for complex national security challenges within three primary missions:
NUCLEAR WEAPON PROGRAMS
Nuclear Weapon Programs are the core of KCNSC’s mission. KCNSC focuses on developing and producing nonnuclear components in support of U.S. nuclear deterrence programs. Through collaboration with design agencies and across the Nuclear Security Enterprise, KCNSC plays an integral part in weapons modernization from conception through design, production, delivery and life-cycle management.
KCNSC’s nuclear stockpile stewardship mission includes: system design and optimization; process engineering; component and subcomponent manufacturing acceptance, and certification: requirements analysis: stockpile surveillance; and operational support.
In Fiscal Year 2024, KCNSC shipped more than 340,000 components, parts, and assemblies – some containing multiple sub-assemblies comprised of hundreds and/or thousands of parts. KCNSC engineers and inspectors conducted more than 9.1 million inspections in FY24.
GLOBAL SECURITY
Global Security is under the oversight of DOE Intelligence (DOE-IN) and Counterintelligence. In conjunction with the NNSA and other government agencies, Global Security is a secure engineering and manufacturing national asset, safeguarding the nation with products and services that support proliferation deterrence, supply chain assurance, and responsiveness to global threats.
Global Security was established in 1998 and designated as a DOE Field Intelligence Element (FIE) shortly after in 2001. Global Security has nearly 400 personnel in Kansas City and Albuquerque, with primary operations in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility.
SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT CENTER (SCMC)
Founded in 2006, the SCMC works collaboratively with prime contractors to develop purchasing agreements that can be used by multiple sites across the enterprise. This saves time by reducing duplication of effort and freeing up buyers to focus on site-specific needs. By leveraging a combined $6 billion in annual spend, the SCMC is able to negotiate lower prices, save money, and avoid costs.
The SCMC’s suite of procurement technology platforms and smart data analytics further enhances strategic savings and improves operational efficiency.
SCMC recently passed a significant milestone, achieving more than $2 billion in savings in less than two decades, including $1 billion in savings in the last five years by NNSA and DOE Environmental Management (EM) prime contractors across the country.
